In 2000, the founders of GoldMine sold their business to a South African company. Swiftpage was able to get 9 of those 22 people to move to Scottsdale and join Swiftpage entirely. In the past, ACT support was performed by an independent group in Atlanta. SwiftPage also found and re-hired some key Sage ACT people who had either been laid off or left due to disagreement with Sage. Swiftie is the official term for those of us who get it. Most importantly, every Sage ACT employee was kept as a “Swiftie”. SwiftPage has stated that they want to get away from annual releases to the next version of ACT will be called ACT v16, not ACT 2014. In the future, September may not mean so much. In the past, Sage always did a annual release in September because that month was the end of their fiscal year. The next version of ACT will be released as previously scheduled in September. The meeting was mostly a get acquainted affair between 75 ACT Ceriftied Consultants (me!) and the new owners. We met just five weeks after the sale so many of the details are being worked out. Very family oriented and in it for the long term.

They believe every phone, table and PC should have some kind of ACT on it. With the acquisition of ACT and SalesLogix, I believe Swiftpage just grew by a factor of 10 or so. I’m also quite convinced that Sage upper management was also completely unaware they owned ACT. Very little long term investment was made and the company frequently sacrificed long term growth for an immediate quick buck. Geoff’s Opinionīeing publicly traded, Sage was strictly a results driven, “make money this month” company. A Wall Street VC firm, KKR, was also involved. Sage did retain about 19% of ACT but only as an investment. The Swiftpage people have majority ownership so they are in control. No one is telling the purchase price and is doesn’t matter. So the partnership between Sage and Swiftpage is pretty strong. In 2010, the Swiftpage product came pre-loaded in all copies of ACT. Swiftpage also extended their product to SalesLogix and SageCRM. The Swiftpage product has the added feature of writing the results of each e-mailing into a contact’s history record so that the results a visible to all ACT users. Swiftpage created an e-mail marketing program similar to Constant Contact and Mail Chimp. Swiftpage has been a close partner of Sage.

So Sage is in the business of buying and selling software companies, not necessarily the creators of software. Everyone of their software titles, with the exception of one, were created by someone else and then bought by Sage.

They own about 300 titles worldwide and about 50 in North America, including Peachtree accounting, Timberline, Mas 90, AccPac accounting, etc. Sage is a UK based, publicly traded company. He didn’t make all those payments and Sage Software stepped in, in 2004, and became the most recent owners of ACT and Salelogix.

In 2000, he bought ACT back from Symantec with the promise of future payments. He had a five non-compete and as soon as that expired, Pat Sullivan started SalesLogix, another CRM software. Here is his report.ĪCT Software was first created in 1987 by Pat Sullivan. Geoff Boulden of Twelve/Three met the new owners of ACT at a conference in Scottsdale, AZ the weekend of May 2-5 th. On March 20, 2013, Swiftpage purchased ACT and Saleslogix from Sage Software.
